To schedule a road test in New York State, one must first take a 5-hour Pre-Licensing Class. We offer the class several times weekly.
The 5-hour class covers information useful for all drivers, especially those just starting out. There will be discussion on the effects of alcohol and other drugs on driving as well as defensive driving techniques, road rage, aggressive driving, and the importance of seat belt use. The use of cell phones while driving has increased dramatically in recent years. In the class, we will open up discussion regarding the dangers thereof.
We also cover the importance of increased awareness of motorcycles and bicycles. Motorcycles and bicycles share the road with cars and trucks but the riders have less protection than the occupant's and larger vehicles. It requires advanced observational skills when sharing the road.
The Pre-Licensing Class is intended to be interactive. We invite you to get involved, ask questions, express concerns, take the opportunity to expand your knowledge of safe driving. Bring your knowledge and experience and share it. We will strive to make the class interesting and informative. Hopefully it won't feel like 5 hours and you will leave with knowledge that will help you become a safer driver.
To take the class, you must present the photo permit. If you only have the interim permit (temporary), you must present either a NYS DMV issued photo Non-Driver's ID, an expired NYS photo permit, or an expired NYS photo driver's license
